What Makes Us Different
Conservation Through Conscious Design
Our buildings are designed to respect the natural landscape rather than compete with it, blending in as unobtrusively as possible. This means preserving the environment wherever we can—sometimes allowing trees to grow through roofs or floors, using no glass in our windows, and often elevating structures on decks to minimize disturbance to the earth and surrounding vegetation. We import only the bare minimum, relying primarily on locally grown reed and grass for construction where feasible, and using removable canvas where it is not. Our furniture is locally made, using locally sourced materials whenever possible, while our interiors are inspired by the Okavango Delta’s natural palette, textures, and beauty, with strong support for local artists and artisans. Our energy is generated through solar power, with water heating also provided this way whenever possible. While solar arrays may challenge traditional aesthetics and limit luxuries such as air-conditioning or unlimited ice, they eliminate the need for fuel tankers crossing floodplains, streams, and forests to deliver diesel. Just as importantly, the generators we choose not to have produce neither pollution nor noise. We believe this is a more responsible and rewarding way to experience the wilderness.
